The Wendy Judge Paulson ‘69 Ecology of Place Initiative Internship Program offers students of all majors the opportunity to engage in landscape, place, and nature locally while gaining the skills, networks, and inspiration to affect change globally. Wendy Judge Paulson ‘69 Ecology of Place Initiative Summer Internship Program

The Paulson Ecology of Place On-Campus Summer Internshipprovides an opportunity for Wellesley students to engage in practical and meaningful projects and skills and acquire knowledge that enhances their connection to nature and sense of place at Wellesley. On-campus interns will

  • Build community with an interdisciplinary group of fellow interns and Paulson Initiative staff on campus
  • Develop collaborative skills through activities and meaningful projects
  • Participate in workshops and activities to gain ecoliteracy skills and connections
  • Build a network with other experts and organizations through virtual and/or live field trips and on-campus collaborations
  • Develop project management and goal-setting skills
  • Acquire research skills, tools, and technology to support landscape connection
  • Confidently communicate in written and spoken form
  • Gain experience in landscape stewardship

The Paulson Ecology of Place Off-Campus Summer Internshipprovides an opportunity for Wellesley students to engage in meaningful and practical projects in their home landscape and acquire skills and knowledge that enhance their connection to nature and sense of place in their home region.

ELIGIBILITY:Rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors

AWARDS AVAILABLE:

  • Paulson Initiative On-campus Internships: 4-6
  • Paulson Place Off-campus Internships: 1-2

FUNDING AMOUNT:

  • On-campus internships:Stipend for the entire summer: $4,000 before taxes. Housing on campus is provided.
  • Off-campus internships:Variable depending on the number of hours per week, minimum of $2000 stipend before taxes for 20 hours per week, maximum $4,000 before taxes for 40 hours per week.

INTERNSHIP COMMITMENT:

To participate in theon-campus program, students are required to:

  • Commit to working full-time (approx 9-5) June 6-July 29 (8 weeks) plus occasional evening hours for field trips and special events
  • Complete all required tasks, workshops, projects, field trips, activities, reflections, blog posts, assessments, and readings;
  • Complete any mandatory events and deliverables as required by Wellesley Career Education; the online Summer Pathway work is optional.
  • Participate in the Tanner Conference (or determine an alternative with Paulson Initiative staff if not at Wellesley in the fall)

To participate in theoff-campus program, students are required to:

  • Work a minimum of 20 hours per week and a maximum of 40 hours per week, for a minimum of 8 weeks during the summer.
  • Complete a pre-internship assessment and a post-internship assessment and reflection that includes at least one image that reflects their internship experience;
  • Complete a weekly blog post that provides an opportunity to reflect on their connections to their home landscape;
  • Complete any mandatory events, deliverables, and online Summer Pathway work as required by Wellesley Career Education; and
  • Participate in the Tanner Conference (or determine an alternative with Paulson Initiative staff if not at Wellesley in the fall)

INTERNSHIP FORMAT:In person, if possible given current health and safety conditions, as determined by the College or the employer


INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION:

Paulson Initiative On-campus Internship:保尔森计划direc的指导下tor and Post-bac Fellows, interns will complete projects and activities to advance the work of the Paulson Initiative. Some possible summer projects include creating inclusive interpretive, visualization, artistic and communication materials to connect the campus community to the landscape; researching and assisting with habitat planting, restoration and stewardship; advancing community science and wildlife and landscape monitoring programs; developing maps, images, and data in a college landscape knowledge base; and researching and integrating antiracism and decolonization into Paulson work and approaches. Applicants must be excited about engaging with the New England summer outdoor landscape (including working outside invery hot, humid, and buggy weather) and have an interest in exploring and sharing ideas around sense of place and connection to nature. All majors are invited and encouraged to apply.

Paulson Place Off-Campus Internship: This internship provides funding for an unpaid internship that the student develops or already exists with an organization in their home landscape (home landscape can be defined broadly as not their current address, but places that they can express are part of their home and heritage). The internship must provide an opportunity for the student to engage in learning about and caring for their home landscape and can take many forms, including as just some examples environmental justice, habitat restoration, environmental art, and can be approached from a wide range of disciplines. The intern must have a mentor/supervisor who has agreed to advise and guide the intern during the internship at the organization where they are working.This internship is open to any major.

Paulson Place Off-Campus Internship:

Statement of Interest:Note:Students do not need to have an internship confirmed before applying for an off-campus award, but they do need to have applied for a position(s) and have a clear vision of their proposed summer experience so they can describe, in a compelling manner, how this experience will benefit them professionally, personally, and academically.(Note: Awardees have until May 1, 2022 to secure an internship and confirm their opportunity.)Please address the three questions below in no more than one page (in total for all questions) in a single PDF. Margins should be at least 1” and single-spaced with minimum 11-point font in Arial, Calibri, or Times New Roman:
  • Describe the internship opportunity, what is the mission of the organization, what would be your duties, who is your supervisor/mentor.
  • Describe how this internship will provide an opportunity to contribute to the care of your home region, why you want to participate in this internship and what you hope to gain from the experience.
  • Describe how your past work, course, research, or volunteer experience prepares you for any aspect of this internship and how you might contribute to the internship experience.
