Symantec Encryption Desktop (formerly PGP Desktop) is licensed forfaculty and staff to use on College-owned Windows PCs. Options for personally owned computers areGoAnywhere Open PGP, or一个rticSoft PGP, but these are not supported by LTS.
For all faculty/staff College-owned computers,PGP Shreddertool should be used to securely delete sensitive files that contain Personally Identifiable Information.
For faculty and staff College-owned laptops and other computers that need additional security,Whole Disk Encryption整个硬盘wi工具加密和保护th your Domain Account password, to help prevent the theft of data on the computer.

Installing Symantec Encryption Desktop

The steps below will tell you how to install Symantec Encryption Desktop.If you already have it installed, follow these same steps so that you can install a newer version on top of your old version.

Download the Symantec Encryption Desktop installer from Google Drive for Wellesley College.

For Windows 10 computers,download this installer.

You will need to login to your Domain Account to download.

Google will say that the file can't be scanned for viruses, but clickDownload Anywayto download the installer.

一个fter downloading the proper installer, double-click the file to start.

If you are asked if you want to run the file, ClickYes.

Symantec Encryption Desktop will run through its install process.

Select Accept the License Agreement and clickNext.

Select Do not display the Release Notes and clickNext.

Symantec Encryption Desktop will now install.

If you are asked to Allow the program, click一个llow.

You will be asked to restart your computer, clickYes, and the computer will restart.

The restart process may take several minutes and appear to have stopped at the Windows startup logo or a black screen with a cursor.DO NOT interrupt this process!If it takes more than 15 minutes, please contact the Help Desk.

Type in your Wellesley Domain username and password and clickOK.

一个Symantec Encryption Setup Assistant window will appear.

If you have previously used PGP or Symantec Encryption Desktop at Wellesley, choose "I have used Symantec Encryption before and I have existing keys", and then log in using your PGP / Symantec passphrase. This passphrase could either be a unique password you created, or your Domain password. If you can't login, please contact the Help Desk.

If you haven't used PGP or Symantec Encryption Desktop at Wellesley before, you will be prompted to create a passphrase (use your Domain Account password), and create five security questions.

You should now see a gray lock icon in the notification area on the bottom right side of the Windows taskbar, and a PGP Shredder shortcut will appear on your Windows Desktop.

You may now review the information onPGP Shredderto securely delete files, orWhole Disk Encryptionto securely encrypt your computer.
